Hungarian Goulash Beef Stew Recipe
When I was in Hungary I tried this stew. It is really delicious and not difficult to prepare.
3 lbs stew meat (bite sized pieces)
1/4 cup oil
flour (enough to coat all of the stew meat)
1 large onion
1 tablespoon paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 large red pepper, seeded and sliced into pieces
1 (15 ounce) can beef broth
3 -4 whole cloves, in a cheesecloth bag (to be removed later)
1 cup sour cream
1 Coat the stew meat with flour and brown in the oil in a large pot.
2 Remove from pot and add the onion to the drippings.
3 Saute 10 minutes.
4 Add meat, paprika,salt, cloves in cheesecloth, chopped capsicum pieces, pepper and beef broth.
5 Bring to a boil reduce heat and simmer for two hours.
6 Remove clove bag.
7 Just before serving place the sour cream in a small bowl.
8 Slowly add 1/2 cup of the hot gravy from the pot.
9 Then add back to the beef mixture.
10 Serve over buttered egg noodles.
