University of Turku Invests in Artificial Intelligence and Technology by Recruiting 11 Professors

Eleven faculty positions starting in August 2018 are open in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Turku. The positions are at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure track), or Full Professor (permanent position). The University invests in future technologies by taking AI expertise to a new level.

​The societal significance of technology and particularly information technology is constantly increasing. With its operation, the University of Turku supports the current techno-economic development of business life in Southwest Finland.

– Digitalisation and globalisation drastically change society and business life in all industries. AI brings along a revolution of smart digitalisation where the role of techno-scientific competence becomes incredibly significant. The University of Turku aims at being one of the leading actors of this development, both locally and internationally, says Dean Tapio Salakoski.

The professor and assistant/associate professor positions are open in the fields of data science, information technology, mathematics and statistics. Also, several researcher and teacher positions are open for recruitment in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

– Through its strategic thematic focus areas, the University has a unique characteristic in information and communication technology and mathematics, focusing on combining versatile theoretical and applied research in artificial intelligence and smart digitalisation with other scientific disciplines for solving relevant challenges of business life and society, notes Salakoski.

At the University of Turku, the excellence in discrete mathematics, theoretical computer science and statistical modelling is combined with research in data analytics, machine learning, language technology and interaction design, smart software, and autonomous networked electronic systems along with their cyber security.

The name of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Turku will change into Faculty of Science and Engineering at the beginning of 2018. With the name change, the University wishes to emphasise that it works in collaboration with business life in Southwest Finland for the benefit of the surrounding society.
