This Lighthouse is located in the Black Sea resort town of Ahtopol, Bulgaria. The small town is 90 kilometers to the west of Burgas.
As the southernmost town of the European country, it borders European side of Turkey. In the Middle Ages, the town frequently changed hands between the Byzantine Empire and the Bulgarian Empire. Medieval sources mention Ahtopol as a lively merchant port where many Byzantine, Italian and other ships arrived.
Another fun fact of the town itself? It lies on the site of an ancient Thracian settlement, with the earliest traces of human settlement dating to the Neolithic.
